figure painting process

oil on canvas from the live model. painted while I was a student at a atelier.

drawing stage. focusing on placing the figure nicely on to the canvas and gesture/proportions.

once basic proportion/gesture seems okay, started adding more details to the contour.

established the darkest dark then painted the background then took a quick guess at the skin tones.

adding in some planes while refining shapes.

adding in more planes while refining shape things. at this stage I am ready to begin the final pass over everything.
