starting with the portrait

drawing the face to some degree of accuracy.

using the drawing of the face to work out the drawing for the rest of the shapes.

applying colour. starting with the darker colours.

concentrating on getting the colours on the canvas.

once most of the colours are on the canvas, it is easier to judge the shapes. .

here I have fixed the shapes and applied the back ground colour.

some blending, and quick painting of the hair and finish!
